Recently
some boats moored at the Bratch locks and some other moorings had been broken into.
Some damage to two Narrow boats and
a Cruiser had occurred but nothing has been indicated as having been
stolen.
It had been thought that the person
or persons responsible was just looking for food as this is usually
what is taken. Now while this is a sad state of affairs, its the
damage that is caused when trying to gain entry to these boats that
is the most serious concern.
One narrowboat has had damage to
its locking mechanism where the padlocks had been removed by what
appears to be a crowbar, you can imagine the state of the paint work
and surrounding metal plate!
One cruiser had been set adrift and
its fenders removed and a metal rubbing strip bent back so it is
useless and will have to be replaced. Some kind sole had re-moored
the boat for when the owner returned.
We would ask everybody to keep a
vigilant eye out for anything suspicious and report anything unusual
to the police as soon as possible.
